Edward Seymour, 1. Earl of Hertford (* 22. Mai 1539; † 6. April 1621) war ein englischer Adliger.
Edward war der älteste Sohn von Edward Seymour, 1. Duke of Somerset, aus dessen zweiter Ehe mit Anne Stanhope, und damit ein Neffe der Königin Jane Seymour. Nachdem die erste Ehe seines Vaters 1535 geschieden worden war, waren ihm seine Adelstitel als Viscount Beauchamp (1536), Earl of Hertford (1537) und Duke of Somerset (1547) mit dem besonderen Zusatz verliehen worden, dass diese vorrangig an seine Nachkommen aus zweiter Ehe und nicht an seine beiden Söhne aus erster Ehe fallen sollten. Edward war dadurch Titelerbe (Heir apparent) seines Vaters. Sein Vater wurde jedoch 1552 wegen Hochverrats geächtet und hingerichtet, womit seine Titel verwirkt waren.
Edward Seymour wurde am 13. Januar 1559 zum Earl of Hertford und Baron Beauchamp erhoben.
Im November 1560 heiratete der Earl ohne Erlaubnis der Königin Elisabeth I. deren Hofdame Lady Catherine Grey, Tochter des Henry Grey, 1. Duke of Suffolk. Die Ehe wurde am 12. Mai 1561 annulliert und beide im Tower of London gefangengesetzt. Zudem musste Edward wegen „Verführung einer Jungfrau von königlichem Blut“ eine Geldstrafe zahlen. Aus der Ehe gingen zwei Söhne hervor:
- Edward Seymour, Lord Beauchamp (1561–1612);
- Thomas Seymour (1563–1619).
Da er seine Söhne überlebte, erbte bei seinem Tod, 1621, sein Enkel William Seymour seine Adelstitel. Er wurde in der Kathedrale von Salisbury, in Wiltshire bestattet.

Catherine Grey, anche scritto come Katherine Grey (Bradgate Park, 25 agosto 1540 – Cockfield Hall, 26 gennaio 1568), era la seconda figlia di Frances Brandon, nipote di Enrico VIII d'Inghilterra in quanto figlia di sua sorella Maria Tudor, e Henry Grey, terzo marchese di Dorset. Era sorella minore di lady Jane Grey che regnò per nove giorni prima di essere spodestata e imprigionata da Maria I d'Inghilterra, primogenita di Enrico VIII. Grazie alle sue parentele Catherine era prossima nella linea di successione alla cugina Elisabetta I d'Inghilterra, ma ella incorse nell'ira della regina quando sposò senza il suo consenso Edward Seymour, I conte di Hertford. Arrestata trascorse il resto della vita in prigione alla Torre di Londra.

Frances Howard, Duchess of Richmond
Frances Stewart (née Howard), Duchess of Lennox and Richmond, Countess of Hertford (27 July 1578 – 8 October 1639) was the daughter of a younger son of the Duke of Norfolk. An orphan of small fortune, she rose to be the only duchess at the court of James I of England. She married the son of a London alderman who died in 1599, leaving her a wealthy widow at a young age. She became, for 20 years, the third wife of the ageing Edward Seymour, 1st Earl of Hertford, nephew of Jane Seymour, third queen consort of Henry VIII. Within months of Edward's death she married a cousin of James I, Ludovic Stewart, 2nd Duke of Lennox and 1st Duke of Richmond. One of the great beauties of the Jacobean court, she was also the patron of Captain John Smith of the Virginia Colony.
